Hideko Shimizu, Ph.D

Dr. Hideko Shimizu is a 1st Rank instructor of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana, based in Nashville, TN. She began her ikebana journey at the age of 14 and has been creating floral arrangements ever since.

Passionate about sharing the beauty and cultural depth of ikebana, Dr. Shimizu is committed to making the art form accessible to everyone—from casual enthusiasts to dedicated students pursuing certification.

In addition to her work as an ikebana instructor, she is a faculty member at Vanderbilt University, where she teaches Japanese language and culture.

Join us for a relaxed and welcoming ikebana flower arrangement experience, open to all skill levels—from curious first-timers to those pursuing formal Ikebana certification/licensure.

Led by licensed 1st rank Sogetsu Ikebana instructor Dr. Hideko Shimizu, Ph.D., drop in anytime between 3-7PM for an open-house style class. The session takes about one hour, and you’ll leave with a one-of-a-kind arrangement you created yourself.

Whether you're exploring ikebana for fun or working toward a license, this is a space to learn, create, and enjoy the moment.
